Puppy Power! | Paul from Guide Dogs UK visits Ditton
On Tuesday 4th of February, at Ditton Juniors, the children had the incredible opportunity to meet Paul from Guide Dogs UK, along with his wonderfully loyal guide dog, Pasha. This interactive session allowed the children to learn firsthand about the invaluable role guide dogs play in the lives of those who are blind or partially sighted.
Paul shared his personal journey, explaining how he became blind and the challenges he faces daily. He talked about the various tools and aids that people with sight loss can use to help navigate the world, including different types of canes and other technologies designed to assist with everyday tasks. It was truly eye-opening for the children to understand the importance of these aids and the ways in which they make a significant difference in people’s independence.
The highlight of the session was the demonstration of Pasha’s remarkable skills. The children were amazed to see how intuitive and responsive guide dogs like Pasha can be, and how they offer not just practical help, but emotional support as well. Paul explained how Pasha helps him move confidently through different environments, ensuring his safety and offering companionship.
The children asked many thoughtful questions and were inspired by Paul’s story, gaining a deeper appreciation for the challenges people with sight loss face and the incredible ways in which guide dogs improve their quality of life.
