GB Athlete Visit!

We have a very important guest visiting the children on Thursday 14th February to deliver an assembly to the whole school and some workshops to classes individually. Prior to the event the children will take part in a sponsored walk, jog or run around the playground, each class will be given 20 minutes in order to see how many laps they can complete. Every child recieved a sponsorship form and they have been ask to collect some sponsors for this event. The money that the children raise will go towards supporting the GB athlete that visits us and will go towards buying new equipment for the school. I am very excited to welcome our guest in a few weeks and I hope the children will have a very inspiring day! Thank you for your support – Miss Baker

Term 3 in Year 6

Happy New Year, and welcome back to Term 3. This term, Year Six are working hard to prepare themselves for their SATs tests in May – further details to follow.

We have given out the new SATs workbooks for homework tasks – these are a great resource to help our revision and development, and to give you as parents a great understanding of the topics and vocabulary being taught in school. Homework from these will be set on a Friday and due in on a Wednesday.

Parents Evenings will be taking place on the 12th and 13th of February – thank you for returning your slips so promptly!

Attached is our year group newsletter for this term. Year 6

Science week

In science week, our focus was the digestive system. We looked at the function of our teeth and processes involved in digestion. We carried out research, experiments and made models that demonstrated the function of the digestive system. The children had lots of fun!

This term is maths, we are securing our knowledge of times tables and division facts. We are finding fractions of numbers and quantities through using our division knowledge. We have also solved many problems involving fractions of quantities and explaining our method of reasoning.

This term, we are reading the epic tale Beowulf by Michael Morpurgo. We are in the process of writing persuasive arguments to get the villagers to help fight the monster Grendal. The children have written a persuasive magazine article this week and have used a range of persuasive features including rhetorical questions, facts, power of three and causal connectives.
